"Love's Labor Lost" is the nineteenth episode of the first season of ER. It first aired on NBC on March 9, 1995. It was written by Lance Gentile and directed by Mimi Leder. This episode won multiple Emmy awards and is considered one of the greatest TV episodes in any show. The story of it shows Mark Greene misdianoses a pregnant woman and the ER staff work frantically to save the patient and her baby.

Summary

Dr. Benton has to deal with the aftermath of his mother's fall and crosses the line with the surgical attending when he insists on scrubbing in for her operation. Dr. Greene deals with Jodi O'Brien who is two weeks away from giving birth.

With the obstetrics attending unavailable, he decides to try to deliver her baby in the ER, with tragic results.

Elsewhere, a teenager is accidentally poisoned by insecticides.

Bradley Whitford (NBC's "The West Wing") guest-stars as the concerned husband. Dr. Lance Gentile, former series technical adviser and staff writer, won an Emmy Award for writing the episode.
